I am currently working with an article that describes a parallel between the perfect wine-glass and typography. The author portrays two goblets, one golden wrought in the most exquisite patterns, the other crystal-clear and thin as a bubble, designed to reveal rather than hide the beautiful thing it is meant to contain. In the same way, text should be something that we look through, not at, it is there to do a job and convey a message. The crystal goblet is the kind of type we often take for granted as we don't even notice half of the little details because we are too busy reading what the words actually say. The golden goblet represents type that we look at and appreciate in its own way.
I wanted to explore this idea of an exquisite golden goblet for my project and began designing different layouts and forms. I then went on to experiment with gold foil to create the final design.
