Sara's work, and general life, is so beautifully inspiring to me. Just take a glimpse of her illustrations and it will show you why! I follow Sara's work on instagram and watch her youtube channel of studio vlogs showing what life is like as a freelance illustrator and to me, that is the ultimate dream!
Sara and other illustrators have shown how being self employed in this industry is not the 'starving artist' lifestyle it was deemed to be in the past. It shows that with hard work and a passion for your design, you can be incredibly successful starting up your own online store.
Sara sells prints of her many designs along with adorable little enamel pins, postcards and stickers too. Her online presence and overall branding plays a huge role in the success of her store, as beautiful illustrations like hers only get you so far because people cannot purchase something they do not know anything about.
Over the next year whilst I finish university I want to create an online platform and start selling my own little designs. I need to develop a sense of personal branding so that my work could be recognised as a certain style, or colour palette. At the moment I feel as though I have such a broad range of styles and subjects within my work that I need something to knit that all together. That way, when I have my degree (and hopefully some actual spare time) I can expand this adventure from not just something I do on the side, but hopefully into a career.
